One of my favourite TED talks is Ken Robinson’s ‘How Schools Kill Creativity.’ This is also the most viewed talk on the site. In it he suggests that creative subjects like dancing should be given the same priority as mathematics and other subjects higher up the hierarchy.
At a primary school I was working in today as the children were going into assembly a dance track was playing. As they entered the hall naturally they started moving their bodies in time to the music. Yet the teachers were telling them to sit still. Children need to move and why play a dance track if you don’t want them to dance?
